Insurance companies are getting seriously nervous about health care reform.

Good first step.

Amazing, that.. the people who make a lot of money off of the health care system staying the way it is are the ones who most don't want to see it change.

I'm a capitalist at heart and I favor letting the (well-regulated to avoid absue) market figure out a solution, but when it comes to health care, paint me red and call me a commie, because I want universal health care. AND I'm willing to pay higher taxes to get it.

Yeah, but note that they're not doing anything; they're offering to do something.

Oh of course. This is not a victory. This is just a portent on the battlefield. Because even if they *do* something, they will try to weasel it so that nothing actually changes and they can continue not providing health care for people in exchange for exorbitant premiums.

It has occurred to me recently that the whole problem with health insurance is that it isn't at all "health insurance", not the way we have "life insurance" or "car insurance" or "renters insurance" or "property insurance". But I imagine everybody already knew that.
