Somebody I exchanged mail with on Craigslist about a room to rent is now showing up on my GChat IM client. Presumably because we both use a gmail address, which means we're probably best of friends.

UGH, i hate that....it's convenient sometimes, but for the most part, it's annoying and, yeh, creepy.

I get that frequently with people who have bought stuff from me. They'll pop up from time to time on my list, and I can never figure out how I know them.

In Gmail, Settings -> Chat -> Auto-add suggested contacts -> Only allow people that I've explicitly approved to chat with me and see when I'm online
