Many brief spots of unpleasant anxiety.
Yesterday was my day off for running around and getting errands done. Dropped the car off at Hopkins to get the timing belt changed out (Only 30.000 miles late) after waiting the two weeks I needed to get an appointment, and knowing every day on my drive to work that the belt was finally going to give and I'd end up on the side of the road with no way to work and a $2500 auto repair bill.
The cost for this repair work sucked up basically all of my savings. That would upset me less if I'd gotten everything done that needed to get done.
They'd told me by phone that they don't offer loaner cars for this sort of work, so I'd planned to get a bus pass and run up and down ECR all day. So I got there and they say 'why don't we get you a loaner car?' And I thought to myself well, that'd certainly be convenient since it's raining and I have errands to run.
And while I was filling out paperwork, I thought about how people drive like idiots in the rain and how awful parking anywhere near Castro is and how much I don't feel comfortable driving cars I'm unfamiliar with and halfway across the lot toward the car I told the fellow 'forget it, I'll just take the bus.' He looked confused, but didn't argue the point.
And of course I hadn't plugged my celphone into the charger the night before so I was under 50% battery power and people could try to contact me any time and I had to call work at eleven-thirty On The Dot (five minute window) to find out when I start working next Friday. Plus Dora was late for my hair appointment, which was supposed to start at eleven and didn't get anywhere until eleven-fifteen. But I told her and we took a break in the middle for me to make the call.
And I'm now working Monday to Friday eight to five.
So I'll be cruising 280 for a while until I get the research on a train pass finished. Which I can ride now because I'm not working on weekends when the train doesn't run and I'm not starting at five, when the train doesn't run.

Date: 2003-01-11 09:03 pm (UTC)But you get to work NORMAL hours!! Yippeeeeee! And you can take the train! Yippeeeeeee! I would work on that double quick, as I shudder to think of your reaction to the 101 during the commute.

Plus, I may possibly get a reduction on my car insurance since I have way fewer commute miles.
And there will be no 101 during commute. For the last two weeks of the month I'll be taking that beautiful drive up 280, and the worst of it I'll have to deal with will be the 237-85 and 85-280 interchanges. Which scare the living hell out of me but only last about 45 seconds.
