I've wanted an elliptical trainer for many years now, thinking "If there was a form of exercise sitting next to the god damned television, then how could I not use it?" However, for many years now there really hasn't been any space to put one up. But right now, in my bedroom, there's a space between the window, the altar, and the bed where I could fit one and probably see the television still.
Apparently my champagne tastes have bitten me in the ass again. (How's *that* for a mixed metaphor?) I'm a big guy. I don't want one that threatens to tip over if I get more energetic than a sedate stroll. I don't want one that looks like somebody took the bike I had when I was ten and removed the tyres.

This, unfortunately, means I'd be spending about twice what I'm prepared to shell out. sadface.

Craigslist or yard sales? Some of those New Year's resolutions have got to be fizzling out by now. :) Er, although, it's probably not yard sale season where you are.

I did a run on Craigslist. The lower end of the price range was $500/$600, and I was budgeting about $200.
(We're still looking at snow eight inches deep on the ground in our yard.)

Ouch. That is steep. Good luck on finding something, though. I think exercising and tv would go well together.

It looks like (a) we may turn this into a family financial project and (b) some of the models I pooh poohed as 'too rickety' may be serviceable.
So yes, fingers crossed. (:
