No. Not 'only six more hours until I gets my drank on'. IFIAYAQD! Woo hoo!

Today's question is inspired by the person in the cube behind me:
You get the option to send a message to yourself, back in time. What is that message?
Note: Apparently over 80% of the answers are usually on the theme of "Buy Google/Sell Enron" or "Don't marry that person/marry that person". So those are off limits, and you have to come up with something more orginal.

To my 20 year old self:

Stop being afraid to take risks. Be aware that you create your own joy and your attitude really does influence how the world moves around you. FOLLOW YOUR GUT dammit. It's going to give you some really good advice that I wish now I'd listened to.

Also, yes, you really do like girls too. It's ok. Yes, it's also ok to love more than one person at once.

Stop playing dumb. You aren't and the people who fear your intelligence aren't worth your time. I swear this to be true. Look for the ones who value you for being smart. Look for the ones who are just a little outside the norm. You aren't alone even though it feels like it. There are "your people" out there, you just haven't found them yet. You will be a lot happier when you do.

Hug Mom. You won't have her much longer and you'll miss her a lot.

The last thing? It really does get better. It stops hurting so much. And by the time you're 30, life is going to be pretty awesome. It seems like a long way away, and you've got a lot of pain between where you are now and where you will be but it will get better. You CAN have everything you want.

Major in art. Don't let anyone dissuade you. Find arguments why art is not a useless degree. Do whatever you have to do in order to study what you WANT to study, not what your family thinks you SHOULD study.

Wow. Lots and lots of emotional things, like "Don't ask how bad it could be, it can be really bad, for god's sake don't do that." But I'm declaring those to be off limits, partly because I don't want to cry, and partly because pretty much all of them ultimately made me stronger and more able to deal with things later on. Yes, even the office blowup that still has me afraid to do anything "real" there. I don't know what the final repercussion count will be on that, but I do know that I learned things from it.

Mostly, I'd tell all of my younger selves that putting things off until later just makes for more pain, and that developing good habits is worth the time and energy it takes to do it. Unfortunately, I think that I might be hypocritical there, since I think my future self might like the same damned thing.

Also, I'd tell all my past selves that it's okay to ask for help. Nearly every serious problem I've gotten myself into came about because I felt I had to do it all by myself.
