My coworkers and I have been griping that, because of the state budget cuts, we cannot afford to take another day off. So we have to work on Good Friday, even though our program usually closed that day. (We are staffed almost entirely by people who are serious christians, so most of us would want to take the day off if we could, and we usually do.) I am disappointed -- it is one of the most significant days of the liturgical year, and it would mean a lot to me to have the day off.
In Canada, it's a national public holiday. Service industries are still open, but everything else is closed down. I could choose to work for double time and a half, but I like having the day off.
