Kudos, Mister Moffat
Jun. 19th, 2011 05:30 pmI did not think you could turn this leaky misbegotten ship around so quickly. It is possible that the first five episodes of the new season of Doctor Who have redeemed the hot steaming mess that was last season. And I bloody well applaud you.
The first two episodes were fun, and interesting, and they more or less made sense. Big thumbs up. And Mark Sheppard, who never did a television show any harm.
Pirates of the TARDIbean. The less said the better.
The next two-parter, about The Flesh--it's a premise that's probably been handled by any writer who's ever heard the name "Phillip K. Dick". Identity and humanity and what makes us who we are and all that. And this crew did things with the premise that I would never have expected. And, yes, a lot of things I would have expected, but damn thank you for coming at this idea with something a lot like maturity and some smart story telling. At the end of the story, I was in tears. And then... "Oh wait. I didn't come here to tell you that story. I told you that story so I could tell you next week's story."
It's good to see my show back again.
