It took me years to write, will you take a look?

This is the song that's been in my head for the past two weeks. For those of you not on the FaceBook juggernaut, last night (with 20 minutes to spare) I finished "Young Bones Groan", the Ashworth Academy fanfic that I started in March. Well. Except for two metaphors and the details regarding a magical ritual where I grabbed myself by the collar and growled "do not get bogged down in research! keep writing! go back later!"
Which is kind of like telling a Marine that "he's only got one gunshot wound, he can crawl to safety and we'll pick him up later". NOOOOOOO! MY METAPHOR! NO WORD LEFT BEHIND!
But I did completed the November Project, and I'm very pleased. But I can't slow down, because honestly at the rate of production last month, slowing down means stopping. And I have the December Project, the March Project, the Personal Project, and also going back and smoothing and refining the November Project for March.
So here's where I take ten minutes to bask in my glow, because baby do I glow, and then put my shoulder to the word processor. Maybe I'll investigate Yarny. (Feel free to offer advice on it.)

It's not a novel, but I *finished*. And I can put so many of the pieces together--good idea, interest in the idea, reasonable skill at writing--that it's frustrating when most projects get dropped because I just don't stay with it. (Looks like about six thousand words to this, when I finish.)

Honestly? 50,000 words is no longer considered a saleable novel, IIRC.

I take NaNoWriMo for the spirit of what it's supposed to be rather than the snobbery it's turned into: it's to have the dedication to set out for a project that is an investment of time, energy, and stick-to-itiveness and actually finish it.

You stuck to it and you finished, when it sounds like you haven't been able to before? That's a huge accomplishment, and you should be proud of yourself. :) You know now you can do it, which means that if you decide to do it again...you have that much mental advantage.

In fact, I'm planning on submitting for a *paying* gig--that's December Project--if I can keep up the momentum. Maybe collect my first rejection note since I graduated. (:
