Quick Report: Portal
Dec. 19th, 2011 08:40 pmY'all don't get an LJ-cut, this game's been out forever.
Using the Gravity Gun in Half Life 2 for the past few months prepped me significantly for this experience, I think. The first 14 levels went by pretty smoothly, with the occasional "A Hah!" moment to shift me up to the next level. Level 15 was my first real difficulty, and that was because it was the first real test of my Twitch Reflex. In fact, they nearly lost me for the evening on this one, as I got tired of throwing myself at the floor. Level 16 introduced live fire robots, which were pretty scary at first. Until I discovered that I didn't have to drop the gunbots through a hole in the floor, or drop bricks on them from the ceiling. I could just grab a brick, use it as a shield, and ram them so they fall over. (Again, thanks Half Life 2.) The dialogue up until now had been amusing, occasionally inducing a chuckle, but on Level 17 I got my first nicely creepy moment. I have screen shots of a weird little shrine I managed to squeeze into, and that does get an LJ-cut.

Now, on Level 18, I'm just wandering around lost. No idea what's going on there. If I can clear that, then 19 is the last of the set.
