Public outings in the bay area

As some of you have heard, I'm going to be in California at the end of the month. There are a lot of people I'd like to see--too many to make individual time for everyone unless I moved back. So I am once again planning to set a date where I say "I will be here and you should stop by sometime".
And I look to you to tell me when would be a good or a bad time and where would be a good or a bad location. I was thinking someplace like King of Clubs, which is good for wandering in and out and doesn't ask for a big personal outlay, but is kind of dark and noisy. Possibly a coffee shop, but the tables are a bit small. And it often smells like coffee.
Share with me! But soon, because I should start making actual plans.
