cyranoRemember back when scary movies scared you, as opposed to the cinematic equivalent of your friend walking up behind you and honking on an air horn? Yeah, so does Hammer Films. That's right, punks, HAMMER FILMS. Gore and sex. Frankenstein. Dracula. The Mummy. Peter Cushing. Christopher Lee. Daniel Radcliffe. Yeah, for those of you who somehow missed it, Harry Potter is out again, without his magic wand. And aside from the occasional over the top moment, the cast is quite good.
The film is creepy, atmospheric, the villagers are appropriately sullen and evasive. There are very few Scare Notes, and most of them are done without the score's assistance. I had significant quantites of gooseflesh, and the ending was definitely a surprise.
