Just an excitable boy
Apr. 28th, 2003 11:20 pmThis is me in surly political mode. Screw you if you don't like it.
I was reading my copy of The Nation today, and was struck by two articles particularly.
http://www.thenation.com/doc.mhtml?i=20030505&s=alterman
talks about the pesky question of 'who the hell is going to pay for all this security we're feeling now?'
http://www.thenation.com/doc.mhtml?i=20030505&s=cohen
talks about how spectacularly wrong I was for opposing Our New War.
Each got marked up and underlined and stuff.
And in the 'This is not the America I paid for' department, I read an article in USA Today about how we're capturing all the bad guys (nearly fifteen out of fifty-five! Not counting Osama bin Laden, but we actually caught somebody!) and teaching our new allies/thugs (described as an estimated 1000 Iraqi "freedom fighters" trained by the United States...) how to do business and gather information by threatening the families of those we'd like to locate and question. You know, I thought this was why we decided we had to kill Saddam Hussein. No wait, it was bringing democracy to an opressed people. No wait, it was weapons of mass inconvenience. No wait, it was concern over thousands of years of historical artefacts in the hands of a certified madman.
