So we put down cash on an apartment yesterday.
And the landlady called and said 'I was wrong when I said $1800 was as low as I could go. How's $1650 sound?'
And yesterday a ramp position with SkyWest Portland opened up.
As my lovely friend Lynette (over for the housemate's birthday party last night) said, "So this has been a very surreal week for you, huh?"

Houston, what the fuck? Over.

So what are you going to do?

I'm going to help Mark get packed today and pretty much not worry about it until tomorrow. Today is my Day Off God Damnit. Friday we meet with the representative of the Other Place and see if she likes our application. Saturday we're trying to clean up some of the clutter here (which we'd do even if we're not moving--we have five VCRs currently, as an example).
Right now, we're leaning toward moving into the new place if we get a choice.

How much is the new apartment?

It is a bit of a week, isn't it?

The new apartment would be $1550 a month as opposed to the $1800 we're paying now an the $1650 we would be paying and the rumored $800 that I can get a 2-bdr in Beaverton or Vancouver for.

I should be pleased as punch that I suddenly have some options. Instead I'm just overwhelmed and considering spending the day curled up in bed.

Please note that you will be paying about $600 at the new place. :)

So noted. (: I was presenting full rental rather than my share.

Wow! I've never heard of anyone /dropping/ the price like that.

You looking to take a new job?

Moving was definitely one of my options, once I said 'I can no longer afford to live like this. In fact, I haven't been able to for the past two years.'
Portland and Seattle were geographically and socially my main choices, and Portland seemed like the place I was most likely to get a job in.

I notice how you craftily didn't answer the question. How long do you have to decide?

Rather than not answering the question, I acknowledged that it wasn't a simple binary yes/no question. I probably have until Monday to decide whether I want to try to get the job in Portland.

Portland very good. Plus there's this hot babe I know just over the river.
And if I'd heard less of 'Portland is firing people because the senior crew doesn't want their hours cut' and more 'There will be a ramper position opening up in a month' I'd possibly be there now.
