There's more pictures so there's

The lakeside view didn't mean much last night, but this morning I woke up and the State of Michigan was out our window.

That's the State of Michigan, tied up to the tug. James Hoxsey, this is largely posted so you can admire it. (: I'm not certain how close to the lochs we're going to get.

Hotel 03

This is the view from the other side of the tree in front of our window. We are allowed access to the beach (apparently it's private which is really weird for an Oregon boy) but I'm not certain whether we're going to make it down there or not.

Western Michigan is not a lot like the rest of the state.
It keeps reminding me of driving through the Cascades in Oregon. Right down to the disintegrating houses tucked back into the woods off the road.

I think if you travel enough you'll find that Detroit-Flint-Saginaw is not like the rest of the state. ;) Southern, and more southeastern MI is flat farmland. Most everything north of Clare is more like what you're seeing, and the UP gives over almost completely to vast pine forests.

Pines would be nice. It was lovely when we started seeing evergreens (that had not been planted by the Council in nice straight lines) start to show up. There are a lot of things around MI that remind me of being in Oregon, but the deciduosity of SEMI is one of those subtle 'something is wrong but I can't think what' differences.
