After a bit of a late start in Manistique, we were off to Indian Lake (which had me thinking of 'It Can't Rain at Indian Wells' every time I saw it) to visit the spring at Kitch-iti-kipi that Amanda had heard about, famous for the clarity of the water and the freakin' huge trout that you can see via 'glass bottom' boat. (Amusing side note: The boat is not crewed by staff. One of the tourists has to helm the craft and bring it from side to side.)

The water is indeed very clear, and a sort of teal color. The fish are fat and lazy, and a very noisy duck lives there too. It was a lovely stop (and not just because I got ice cream) and reminded me of Crater Lake.

I heard about a historic mining site called Fayette while at the spring, and by the time I had discovered where it was, it was too late--we passed it a few miles from the springs.

We had a passable pasty for lunch, because apparently that's what one does 'round these parts, and most of the rest of the day was spent driving. Tonight, we dine in Eau Claire.
