The Amazing Smells, 2012 (or more likely 2013) edition

I made a sort-of-impulsive Black Phoenix Alchemy Labs order recently after discovering that Carnaval Diabolique had gone dark without my being aware of it.

I grabbed bottles of two of the most successful ears I ordered in the last batch, lo how very long ago, Black Forest (piney and yum) and Satyr (dark and spicy). But as you all know, the excitement of getting the BPAL package isn't what you asked for, it's discovering what wild random crap they tossed in along with your actual order.

I'm probably not going to get to play much with these in the near future, but I can at least report on the prizes I got.

I got Rome, (cypress, juniper, chamomile, and rose.)
and Versailles, (citrus, amber, ruby roses, jasmine, and orris.)
Les Fleurs du Mal, (rose, softened with lilac and wisteria.)
VooDoo, (myrrh, patchouli, vetiver, lime, vanilla, pine, almond and clove. Oooooo. Sounds tasty.)
Wanda, (merlot, leather, musk and body heat over crushed roses, violets and myrtle.)
and Scarecrow, (The scent of a hot wind blowing through desolate, scorched, barren fields. Evocative but not very concrete.)
but the jackpot here was a scent called "Economic Recovery" subtitled "Black Friday 2012". (patchouli, ambrette seed, bergamot, Irish moss, rice flower, and thyme.)

Oh, and also a postcard sized paper. On one side, an ocean vista, woodcut style, with gigantic shadowy black heads rising up out of a stormy sea and a three master foundering in the foreground. A BPAL ad on the reverse.

Les Fleurs du Mal is one of the ones I've liked enough to get a whole bottle. =)

I have learned that reading the website description will give me no better than a ballpark estimate of how a scent will behave.

Which doesn't mean that I'm not looking forward to VooDoo and Economic Recovery.
