Hey y'all! Woot wants to sell me a computer! They've got a line up here and I was hoping for your opinion on them. See, I'm not entirely certain why the model with the 1.5tb hard drive is ten dollars more than the 1tb model--I don't see a lot of difference in the specs.

Are these awesome deals? Okay? Rip offs? My general impression of Woot is rarely the first, usually the second.

The top middle one doesn't seem worthwhile compared to the top right one. Top right has twice the # of cores and a faster chip, twice the RAM, half again as much hard drive, and gigabit ethernet that the other lacks. If you don't need the extra hard drive space and want better speaker plugs and a better video chip, the 2nd row left would be better than top right. 2nd row middle compared to top right has a faster processor, smaller hard drive, and adds bluetooth (which is of limited usefulness in a desktop, IME). I wouldn't bother with 2nd row right for same reasons as top middle.

Offhand, it looks like a pretty good deal. I bought my Mom something new with slightly lower specs (and also a premium for Win 7) for Christmas for half again that. There's ust the risk associated with a refurb, which is often minimal, especially from a major manufacturer. I'm actually thinking about snagging one of those myself now. I'm not yet convinced I want to upgrade while Windows 8 is the going concern, though, as every other Windows OS release is short-lived and this is one of the doomed alternations. I got my current TiVo (non-refurb, I think) off Woot, and it's still going strong after 3 years.
