Apparently I now live in a more expensive area. Since more people who live in my zip code make auto insurance claims, I have to pay an extra $156. Nothing to do with me or my abilities as a safe driver. I'm paying for the fact that my neighbors can't drive and might run into me.

I introduced Anne to Strong Bad today. She seemed to enjoy it.

And tonight I got to see eight straight episodes of Sports Night in a row. It's rather different from watching them one a at a time off TiVo. Considering a Sports Night soundtrack.
Eli's Coming
Someone to Watch Over me
Boogie Shoes
That Pretenders song Cindy likes
Plus whatever else I can't remember.

Tomorrow I go see the counselor type lady at Mental Hut. Won't that be exciting?

And in This made me actually shout Oh My Fucking God That Is Beautiful news, I was turning onto MacDonnell Road, turning left at a T-Intersection. After making the turn, I saw a car barrelling up behind me after having run the red light. It was going at least 40 in a 30mph zone. When it passed me I saw it was an SFPD parking patrol car.

Yeah, I'm looking into this. Who do you get insured through?
(Pigfuckers.)

My insurance company is probably not an option for you, but it's USAA (it offers insurance only for military personnel, their dependents, and offspring).

I would suggest talking to [livejournal.com profile] mallen. I recall that in the last few years, he did some extensive research into a new insurance company in order to lower his own rates, and would probably have a list of several companies to comparison shop at. And don't be afraid to do comparison shopping.

The cheapest auto insurance I can find in California is from 21st Century. Only slightly more expensive than that was Mercury Insurance. I would also put GEICO on your short list of companies to call.

Allstate (oddly enough) seems to be the cheapest for motorcycle insurance.

Honestly, your best bet to save time AND money is to call an independent insurance broker and make them find the lowest auto rates for your car and your specific demographics. You'll probably have to pay some kind of smallish "brokerage" fee, but it can be worth it for the convenience of not having to spend an hour calling all these companies.

A brooker sounds like a fine idea.
I think I'll start there.
First I'm going to write one of my famously snide letters to Progressive.

I think you should write your letter to them as if you were under the misapprehension that "Progressive" described their company's political stance and not their "progressive" tendancy toward usury as you move.

I don't know what will happen to your rates, but you could look into Amica. I have them and they're just lovely to me. My roommate wanted us to combine our rental insurances when she moved in. I refused because I loved Amica so much, and she eventually switched to them herself - and her car rates went down. I had always thought Amica was expensive, but it may be worth looking into.
