Caught in a trap
Oct. 10th, 2003 10:04 amQuick disjointed review of Bubba Ho-Tep:
First thought, "Good god that's amazing age make up."
Bruce Campbell is a very good aging Elvis. This is not a wacky over the top zany action flick a la the Raimi boyz. The pacing was much slower than I expected. This is not neccessarily a bad thing, it just meant I had to adjust. The characters are nursing home patrons, and so it's good that they move slowly. I kept waiting for them to cop out and make Elvis all young and rejuvenated, but they didn't.
Afterwards I found myself sitting in my car in front of Ellie's house flipping through my CD collection for about ten minutes until I found my favorite Elvis song. Then I drove off under the full moon with Fine Young Cannibals' Suspicious Minds blasting on the stereo.
I liked this movie. I have no burning passion to buy it on DVD but I'm glad I got to see it. And the company was, as usual, excellent. Plus, thumbs up on the new venue, the Towne 7 in the Pruneyard.
Worth full price of admission--I give it four wags out of five.
