Mom update:
The doctor says, after a few hours, that he thinks maybe she has pleurisy. Which I recall being one of those diseases that people in Regency romances get, like consumption or gout or catarrh. Anyway. They're going to keep her under observation and give her antibiotics. If she responds, they will decide that their diagnosis was successful.
What concerns me is that most of what I've read on the topic says "Pleurisy is only as serious as the underlying condition." And we don't know what the underlying condition is. Maybe there isn't one.
Anyway. I'm supposed to work two days out of the next six, and I managed to arrange to not have to work them in case the situation takes a turn for the worse and I suddenly decide to go to Lewisville. (I know, REM says don't go back to Lewisville.) Getting there in the next couple of days should be easy, flying stand by. Getting back, before say Monday or Tuesday, will be a real bitch.

Hey you.

I don't know if this will help or not, but:

Pleurisy is basically inflammation of the lining around the lungs, as I've learned in class. Can be caused by trauma. Can be caused by infection, etc. It's relatively easy (most of the time) to take care of with antibiotics, if it doesn't go away by itself. The major thing about it is it's *incredibly* painful (I've had pleuritis myself, sucks) because it hurts to breathe. Therefore, you take lots of little shallow breaths and you really don't feel like moving much at all.

But it's not (again with the usually) life threatening. So. *hugs* to you. And lots of wishes for her speedy recovery.

It sounds a lot like what I've read, but it's always good to hear from a person, especially somebody with experience with it, rather than from a web page.
Thanks, sweetie.

FWIW, REM says don't go back to Clarksville. Lewisville should therefore be fine. ;)

Mike Stipe is not the easiest man to understand, and as much as I like the Lewis and Clark thing, I think the song's caaalled Don't Go Back to Rockville. The Monkees Take the Last Train to Clarksville though.

Doom. You're right. This is me being sheepish. I knew it didn't sound quite right (but at least had the right number of syllables)!
