There's a meme infesting people's journals. I usually don't pay attention, but this one kind of interests me.

I know very little about some of the people on my friends' list. (There are even some people I don't know at all.) Take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself, anything at all. It doesn't have to be inspiring or anything like that, just something I might not know. It'd be totally cool if everybody on my friends list did this, even you people I've known for a billion years. Then post this in your own journal.

And no giving me something you've given someone else. That's cheating. :)

Here's one to get you started.
In high school, I was a letterman. Junior Varsity Chess Team.

Ah, damn, and here I was all set to recycle one. Hrm. Okay. And you took the letterman thing already.

I have a sickness. If ever there are small boxes in a store, I have to open and close most of them, just to see what's in there. It's weird, and dangerous in places like Chinatown.

According to my mother, I was named after her favorite baby doll. She always called her dolls Susan or Katherine, so she knew if she ever had a daughter, she would be Susan or Katherine.

When I pointed out that Dad always told people I was named for his aunt Susan, Mom gave me a smug little smile and replied, "Well. That's what he thinks."

I like Kalamata olives better than chocolate. And I love chocolate.

My sister's name is Heidi, and when we were kids and teased each other, I always called her "Heidi heiny-hole". It doesn't really rhyme or otherwise make sense, but she hated it anyway.

Frighteningly enough, I too was a letterman in high school, in two "sports".

Four years varsity chess team, two years varsity bowling. Made all-county in bowling both years.

A couple years ago, I was 1/4th of a very short-lived, all-queer poetry performance group called Swallowing Saint Action. We only did a couple shows, but our collective talents were good enough to get us into the Seattle Poetry Festival for April 2002, I believe it was... not an easy thing. We never went because the other members couldn't afford travel and room costs for a week, and they were only paying us $150 total or something. For the four of us.

Sadly, I have not written (or at least finished) any new performance pieces in... it's been 14 months now. I don't have much I feel I need to say in that medium, I guess.

I lettered in forensics (speech and debate), myself. And because in WA it's governed by the state athletic association, it was even an athletic letter rather than one of the many activity letters I also had. I was varsity volleyball as a freshman, but that was in junior high, not high school.

I lettered in choir.

...not really much you don't know, but feel free to ask. :)

Since people are talking about youthful hobbies...growing up, we had these friends of the family that we'd spend Thanksgiving and Christmas with (even though we were Jewish, and they were half-Jewish). In order to "get rid of the kids" (me, my brother, the other boy, and the other girl), we'd go off and rehearse a rendition of the Wizard of Oz, which we loved. I was about 3 years younger than the youngest other kid. Heather would play Dorothy and all the witches; my brother and Steve would fight over who got to be the Tin Man or the Scarecrow that time; and I'd be Toto.

Heh. I lettered in Orchestra, plus got a pin. They didn't have letters for the multitude of other things I did, which is kind of dumb, considering we won a world competition for OM.

But for a unique thing...I was in an extremely short-lived band (a few days, or maybe just a few hours) at church camp one summer. We called ourselves Jay and the Poopy-tards. Jay played Jew's Harp, Dave played guitar, I forget who played drums, I played harmonica, and Andy sang. We played a Jane's Addiction song (Summertime, which I hadn't heard before the day we played it), and a Pink Floyd song. I have a tape of it somewhere; it's not bad, but it's not great, either.

Okay, I'll admit to having lettered too. For GAA (Girl's Athletic Association) participation, back before Title X and equality for sports budgets. Yup, went to high school in the dark ages. :-)

FWIW, mine's a 7" or so tall green "A" with white border. My school colors were green and white, and we were the Roughriders, named for Teddy Roosevelt's military group, not the condoms.

Haha, yeah, In high school I lettered in music, In fact I even got a letterman's jacket that I have to this day. (thought I never wear it) and pins that go along with it... but I will not steal your bit of information and modify it to fit myself, so you get two bits of information today. ;)

For christmas one year while I was in junior high, my father bought me tickets to what he though was a concert I would enjoy... I went, so not to disappoint my father (or make him feel like a dunce), but for a kid who listened to danzig and slayer... a new kids on the block concert was torture. ;)

• My mother is Japanese and my father is a white Jew.
I have inherited the weirdest things from my father, such as my ability to hold hard liquor and a lot of it, and I burn I don't tan. My friends make fun of me as the asian Jew.
• I'm a compulsive shoplifter.
• I hate black licorice and root beer like I hate..um..Hitler.
