Father Christmas, give us some money!
Dec. 30th, 2003 10:29 pmI have just seen Billy Bob Thornton's new film, Bad Santa.
It is very wrong. In so very many ways. This film is Not Hallie Safe(tm).
It is badly fucked up. I think it might have even damaged me. But it was so worth it.
I laughed a lot. I laughed out loud many times. It's dark. Downright black at times. Most common thoughts during this screening were "Santa should not do that." and "Nobody should do that." and "That's just not right." and "That's downright disturbin'."
But there was not a great deal of the 'how gross can we make this' Farrelly Brothers comedy that I fail to find amusing. Yes, there are bodily fluids. But used sparingly.
Ajay Naidu had a great cameo (good to see him working again) and I'm glad John Ritter had this as his final credit and not Switching Channels or what the hell ever else. And OH MY GOD IT'S A COEN BROTHERS FILM. Okay, this explains a whole lot and I would have been far more keen on this had I known. But Lauren Graham in various stages of undress is also good. The Kid was really good for a kid. And it is now way late and I need to go to bed.
A happy ending that doesn't feel like it's coated in sugar, which I approved of.
I'm pleased--two films in one week that brush the treasured 'Five Wags' rating.
Not for everyone. But definitely for me.
