cyrano: (sleepy)

Bailed on work today. Woke up with another migraine, which luckily went away by noon. I don't know why work doesn't want us to say "I'll be in later." If you call in sick they want you to just stay home.
Took a long hot bath, and now smell very floral. Bullied the mix disc into submission--cover art, liner notes and finalized play list. Then I found out that the agonizing over what song to cut was pretty much moot--the Oakenfold track refuses to burn. The software says it's a buffer under-run. It plays just fine though.
Anyway. It's finished.
Got a job pointer from somebody at work. Waiting to see how that turns out.

I know why work doesn't want you to say "I'll be in later."

For some bizarre reason, 90% of Americans do not know what a 'germ' is, or that if they are sick, and spend a lot of time in close proximity with other people, other people will be sick. Some of them are stupid, but most of them are just assholes.

So, you have to have a policy that's a polite way of saying, "OTHER PEOPLE DO MATTER, YOU FUCK, STAY HOME WHEN YOU ARE SICK."

There's not a lot of room in the policy to make exceptions for non-contagious illnesses, like migraines. There's an inexplicably strong urge in the general populace to infect others with their germs, and any inflexibility would be enough of an excuse for them to do their virus's cruel bidding.

Hope your head feels better!

Okay, there is that. However, I think (at least in my general experience) it's a lot less "I don't understand the principles of contagion" and a lot more "Given our draconic and punitive ways of dealing with illness in the workforce, I can't afford to miss the hours or give the impression that I'm a detriment to the labor effort."
Did I mention that the reason I didn't get the job in Operations was because I'd taken two sick days this year?

Waugh! You *know* how bad I am at last minute, especially when it involves driving to That City. Next time, at least 12 hours notice.

Aaaah. That's the 'Adam's party' that she's getting ready for! I'd sort of heard of it, indirectly, about fifteen minutes ago. (:
