Goin' to the Chapel
Nov. 14th, 2004 04:50 amA thought, based on rumors I'd heard. I need to hunt down the text of some of these 11 state constitutional amendments about defending marriage. If it's only one man-one woman, is it possible these states have just outlawed divorce? (Or at least re-marriage.)

If you get off your duff, I image you can still use Google to locate the voter pamphlets of those 11 states and find what you're looking for. I'm sure they contain the exact text of the laws proposed (as California's does).
The more interesting question is: Has anyone in those 11 states sued to prevent the laws from going into effect?

I suspect this is the case, but if any of them are as badly worded as most ballot initiatives seem to be....

I am too, and once I get enough initiative to look them up (long work weeks tend to drain me of interest in anything beyond what's neccessary for survival), I expect I can check this.

I haven't heard of anything concrete, but I know at least some of the people in Oregon who are already married are planning to contest it as soon as somebody denies them benefits of marriage.
