Gary Jones and Dean Haglund are apparently old friends, and Jones was nearly the third gunman. He was culled for not being serious enough to be in the X-Files, as apparently his derisive scoff was over the top. Dean Haglund reminds me a lot of being in the same room with Klae. And I at least get to see his show tonight, as they are giving him the ballroom for an hour or two of improv and my charming convention co-attender has procured us tickets.
'Media cons' are very different from 'lit cons' which seems to be the designation for OryCon.
I'm making the adjustment. It's a lot less chaotic, as there are fewer things going on, and fewer things going on at the same time. Lots of Star Trek costumes. If there are lots of StarGate/Battlestar costumes, I don't recognize them. Very few costumes that aren't Star Trek. I fell prey to the evil Dealer's Room, and bought two overpriced t-shirts, an Edison Carter bumper sticker, a few badges (UNIT, S-Mart and BPRD) and a Psi Corp pin to replace the one I lost. Also, Windrose won me a BPRD sticker in a cunning game of chance. I admired a collection of the entire Tick series on DVD (since it's not currently possible to purchase them commercially) but balked at the $40 price tag. Also eyed the widescreen DVD release of the Un-Director's Cut of Blade Runner sans unicorn.
John Noble is here, and according to Windrose seems rather overwhelmed by the noise and fuss but remains polite, genteel and of very good character. I admire that.
It's Florida and it's very close to Spring time, but the humidity has been within reason and the skies gently overcast, and I've been in climate controlled buildings most of the time so I've been quite comfortable. (Quick note aside--web page says the hotel has 'high speed internet'. In actuality, this is true. Internet-for-hire in the lobby area. For some reason IfH is not available in my room.)
Ezra and Spooky say hi, Ez from the comfort of another room or behind something or underneath something else, whereas Spooky forgave me for disturbing the tranquility of his home after an hour or two.
Lots and lots of families, which is not surprising seeing as it's Spring Break and Orlando. The plane flights, although heavily populated with sprogs, were pleasantly well behaved. I'd gotten off work around midnight, come home and packed, then stopped by Safeway for meaty snacks and drove to the airport to catch a plane as a (WOO) paying passenger. So when they gave me a middle seat from Salt Lake to Tampa, I could complain.
So no sleep Wednesday night. Got to Bradenton, and there was a pleasant low key evening enjoying each other's company before I got eleven hours of sleep. Last night was four hours. When I try to go back to work I'm boned.

My geek market is kind of odd. I don't like the stuff that says "EVIL DEAD! D00D!" all over it. I like the low key stuff. The badge just says 'S-Mart Manager: Housewares'.
