Movie of the day: Animatrix
Collection of anime shorts taking place in the Matrix world. Nine of them. The artwork by the Aeon Flux guy irritated me, just like AF did. As did the weird plasticity of the human body in the one about the fastest runner in the world.
But in general, I enjoyed this collection a lot. The two by the Cowboy Bebop guy and the one about the Osiris were my favorites, but I also really liked the haunted house.
One of the things I really liked: unusual and odd things happen in these shorts, things which could (if told by an overdramatic storyteller) dramatically change the Matrix. Glitches in programming, people awakening independently, things like that. And when something untoward happens, the machines move in quietly quickly and efficiently and clean it up. No muss, no fuss, the machines have got things in hand.
Which is what I would *expect* from a world dominating power that's been in place for years and years. They're competent, and they've seen things go wonky before.
I haven't seen Matrix II but I liked this collection better than the first Matrix movie. Four wags out of five.
