Read a book

I have a habit of keeping the "Year's best fantasy and horror" anthologies in the loo, short stories being a good complement for random short spells of enforced incativity. And I've started taking notes as to where I can find smaller, pocket sized paperback printings of some of these so that I can buy them and then promptly loan them out. Like Gary Kilworth's "Memories of the Flying Ball Bike Shop" which went exactly where I had hoped it would go, and AS Byatt's "Story of the Eldest Princess" which starts out as a very traditional fairy tale but then goes on a bend because the heroine reads too much.

I suspect this was something resembling the intentions of the editors. (:

Just after I left my last job, I took a trip out to Florida where I dropped a table on my thumb. This was not the entire purpose for the visit, mind you. However, it did some damage and I was afraid I was going to have trouble with it later.
In the end, all it did was leave a little white mark.

And now I'm kind of using that as a bookmark, as the white mark crawls up the nail, an indication of how much time has passed since then. The pink underneath the mark is a new job, a new life, new possibilities and new options.

In honor of WindRose's return to dry land, I'm watching the Magnificent Seven.
And wow, it's like watching Van Sant's Psycho, or Point of No Return.
Also, I stopped by le Target and found Reservoir Dogs for seven-fifty and Robocop and Terminator in a double feature box set for about four bucks each.

And since I'm in a chatty mood, and finally got the camera to do what I want, here's more posting.

Long long ago, in the mists of time, when I last got to see my wonderful friend Aberdeen, she brought me presents. Um, okay, further back into the mists of time. When I had made my last trip to OryCon (some eight years or so ago--it was the last time I actually tried to edit 'Exodus') I'd talked to Dorothy of Cordochorea in the dealers' room. She had some fabulous totem-like jewelry, and I asked if she ever did work with... more coyote-like totems. She said she had a skull at home that had been insisting she do something with it, and would set to work on it.

Aberdeen, whom everybody knows and adores, came down one summer bearing gifts. She apparently had made arrangements to take this custom job over and procure it for me. I promised Dorothy there would eventually be photos, and finally there are.
