cyrano: (Pursued by a Bear)
Things I like:
"The Evil Within" by Sara Douglass. Basic premise is 'what if the world really was the way that mediaeval Christians saw it?' Unsurprisingly made me want to run a game in that sort of world--like Dogs in the Vineyard but with more combat. My usual minor quibble--'gargoyle' comes from the French word for 'throat', and its etymology has nothing to do with monsters or demons. They're called 'gargoyle' because rainwater gushes out of their mouths as they perch on the roof.

Things I do not like:
My statistics instructor informed us on Thursday as we left class that we would have two assignments over the weekend. Both would be posted online at some vague future date. One would be an extra credit assignment that would be live for about 24 hours from its posting, and the other would be a required assessment of the chapter we'd just finished that would be due Monday at midnight.

This morning I logged in and found that the former had been posted and closed and the latter had not yet been posted at all.

Instructions for a graphing calculator should be instructions on function. If I want to know how, after I have input all the parameters, to make the damn thing GO AHEAD AND DRAW THE GRAPH ALREADY then that's what an instruction manual is for. An instruction manual should not be a second class on theory.

My head hurts.
