It's something I said or someone I know
Jul. 2nd, 2005 07:52 pmWatched the first episode of 30 Days (30 Days in a Muslim household) and was really quite impressed. It's by the same guy who did Supersize Me and so I wasn't sure how sensational it was going to be, but it was really really good. It felt like it was an honest attempt to bring two parts of the population closer together and understand each other better. And I kept being pleasantly surprised by and *proud of* the white christian all american. He went out of his way to independantly study and research, and he was up front and honest. And although I didn't care much for him personally, I liked the screen time they gave the pushy Imam.
And I'm finally caught up on the first series of Lost. I have one thing to say here--Abrams promised us some answers by the end of the first series, and I didn't see much in the way of answers. I told Sioux that I was going to have to bite him.
I started reading Sarah Vowell's Take the Cannoli and my crush on her is just getting bigger and bigger. I'm going to have to ask her to lunch.
And it occurred to me in the bathroom that much of my sense of humor involves taking normal everyday things and couching them in unexpected or inappropriate context. It's sort of the intellectual equivalent of dressing a dog up in a frilly collar and a clown hat.
Considering other mixes--a companion disc for Veronica Mars which would include the Dandy Warhols, 'Watching the Detectives' and (if I have a copy) 'One Way or Another', and Do You Speak It? as a collection of songs in non-english language with a threatening picture of Samuel L. Jackson on the liner notes.
As regarding birthday plans, it looks pleasantly low key so far. Sunday dinner with elo_sf, Monday holiday BBQ with Carla and Turk (Super Chocolate Bear).

Date: 2005-07-02 10:04 pm (UTC)Actually you saw the second episode of 30 Days. The first one was Morgan Spurlock and wife trying to live on minimum wage. Saw a bit of it, but didn't hold any revelations for me, so I went elsewhere.
