cyrano: (Still Flying)

So I made it to Tampa, more or less uneventfully. Slept fitfully and occasionally over the night's travels, and was a bit sleepy when I hit the rental car counter and discovered that I'd been driving on an expired license since my birthday, three months past. And the rental people get cranky if you try to take a car and you're not legal to drive.
So. Um. 45 miles from Bradenton, and facing the problem I have, on more than one occasion, faced. How the hell do I get across the bay? This time, however, my search uncovered a shuttle that has, for some reason, in the past eluded me. It goes from the airport to a mildly populated industrial zone between Sarasota and Bradenton. And for only $30, which was far better than the $162 that was the second best quote I could find. And from there, for another $30, I got a taxi to Windrose Estates. (I may see if I can prevail upon her to drive me back to the shuttle on Monday for a reduced rate.)
We have run errands, and made the Green October battle worthy again, removing faulty plating and replacing it with state-approved platings. I delivered to her many presents, at which she dutifully squeed, and now we are preparing for a dinner with work colleagues. (Apparently tomorrow I get to be an archaeologist's lackey's lackey. If I can find eight more of me then I get to be a minion.)

D'oh. And renewing a license that expired means taking the written test again. :P I know, because I found out the day *of* my birthday that my driver's license had expired.

I take it you didn't get a notice either? I wonder if they don't notify you when your license is about to expire, because I didn't get one either. :P

Glad you made it there okay now more than ever, after hearing the story of getting there.

No, they notify you. Only once though. And this is the state of California we're talking about here.

And if you happen to have car insurance, you get a big discount for having a continuous license for something like 3 years. If you let it lapse for more than a certain amount of time (3 months may be it) they reset the counter and you have to pay more.

Found that out the hard way when we moved back here and discovered Michael's license expired just outide of the allowable gap.

Glad that you got a chance to get away and have a break. Live, love, laugh and be happy. Life ain't so bad or I wouldn't still be here. It definately isn't what I had hoped for but there are a lot of things I am thankful for and you my special son are one of them. I have learned (the hard way) that you better enjoy what you have because tomorrow it may be different. Blessed be, Lady
