Oct. 17th, 2005 11:03 amQuick mid-weekend update.
Yesterday was pretty much all Jake. Plan to drive up to Oakland and game, or at least hang out and admire her paws, fell through between general tiredness, other plans and miscommunication. So it was just the three of us--me Jake and peepcat. But I found a copy of Unleashed at the video store and we watched lots of Lost and Veronica Mars while she got work done. Then Jet Li (which pretty much falls into the American Jet Li Movie Syndrome trap of too much plot not enough ass kicking. Although I know Jet is getting old and not up to as much ass kicking as usual, and the plot on this one was, although familiar in theme to most HK cinema goers, at least treated in a fresher manner than usual.) Then we scooted up to the city for her proper birthday stuff. We went to Taste of Thai, where there was pad thai and broccoli beef with the weird spinach-y chinese broccoli, and a lovely pumpkin curry which I saw on the specials board and had to try even though it was probably not Jake-safe and she indulged me in this aspect. We were late for the concert--Girlyman started without us--but I can't imagine we were too late. Curtain time was eight and they were probably running on Fillmore Standard Time. They were a lot of fun, and played much of their 'Little Star' album and were possibly the cutest band in the world. Dar Williams came on around nine and played a two hour set, including lots of Girlyman. Aside from the last half hour, where everything was from Mortal City or End of the Summer, it was all new material to me. And it was enjoyable, but not different enough that I felt compelled to buy the new albums. Nothing she played demanded that I take it home.
And this morning I am washing everything in the linen closet, because it shares space with the dryer and is thus covered in lint, and moving it to a new linen closet.
Da_Zhuang showed me this. It's not as inspiring as the Goblet of Fire trailer, but there are no spoilers.
