So....
tired tired tiredtiredtiredtiredPANG.
At 12:25, like flicking a switch, I went from lying in bed thinking about nothing because my brain was already asleep and was waiting for my body to follow it to lying in bed staring at the ceiling.

And I don't think I've mentioned it but I really fucking hate that advert that solemnly asserts that it's not your music, or your neighborhood, or your personalty that says the most about you--it's your watch.
Yes. It's your motherfucking *watch* that defines what you are as a person. Usually adverts say exactly that, but they're a little more subtle about it. I become unreasonably emotional every time that advert comes on.

After watching the Daily Show, I've realized that my War against Christmas really is childish and immature, and it's very important that when we celebrate the birth of the Messiah three to four months early that we remember The Reason For The Season. I'm going to start wishing people a Jesusy Christ Christ and a Christy New Christ.

Yeah. Awake.

Speaking as the local athesist-cynic-currmudgeon: Christmas is entirely fake. Even the religiousy parts were made up by the Church in order to seem cool like paganism. There's nothing about the holiday that's remotely genuine. So why bother getting upset about it? Commercialism? Who cares! You don't think the Church fathers 2000 years ago weren't busting their humps trying to sell this holiday to the masses? You'd better believe they were, they needed converts like the dickens. Happy holidays getting under your skin? Well guess what: Every other major religion has a midwinter festival too. And their ain't anything wrong with recognizing this fact.

In the end it's a holiday, everyone is supposed to be nice to each other and see beyond our own pointy little noses. So let's just do that, in however way you choose, and leave the rest alone.

Thus ends The Traditional Christmas Rant. Good night and good luck.

There is one thing about the holiday that's genuine. It's the middle of the winter, and as far as most of western civilization is concerned, it's dark and it's lethally cold and everything outside looks dead. Which means that, psychologically and often practically, it's a very good time to encourage hospitality and foster good cheer where we can.
It has nothing to do with whose god was born, whose god died, or whose god did what with a day's supply of oil, but it's still genuine. And according to what I read in the Bible, Jesus thinks that hospitality and good cheer are okay things even in December.
