cyrano: (Not what I seem)

The computer system is down at work. This is combining with our scarcity of parking places to create a giant airplane traffic jam as planes arrive and there's nowhere to put them.

My muscles all ache, and my joints are not much better.

Last night was the first night on forced air. I kept waking up, my mouth painfully dry, and finally removed the mask sometime after dawn and napped intermittantly for a few more hours. I'm hoping this is a transitional thing until I learn how to keep my mouth closed and not painfully dried out while I sleep. Maybe one of those mouth guards like boxers and hockey players wear. Maybe just a wad of packing styrofoam.

Despite being tired and feeling crappy I am still steeled toward finally making my return to the gym tonight. Maybe there will be Coke by the end of the night, but it's a little late to start that severe a self-medicating programme.

Listening to new versions of "As Cool as I Am" and "Postmortem on Our Love" from my Valentine's Day present, I wonder if anybody has heard of a party making the tracks available in digital format. And, of course, where the new versions of these songs came from.

Ummm I can't think of anything else offhand.

Yeah, it's all new and exciting. It's also kind of spendy, so I'm hoping to see some improvement soon.

When I get sick, I frequently have that problem.

I've noticed that slathering my lips with balm or chapstick helps protect my mouth some. I hear it is just an adjustment period, but not having used one I don't know for sure. Having a glass of water immediately by the bed may also help?

The big problem with the glass of water theory is that if I open my mouth, the continuous air pressure puts me into 'constant exhale' mode and I'd blow water all over my comforter. (: However, I'm going to try the lip balm idea tonight.

Is Postmortem On Our Love by the Flash Girls?

It is. But this version is... less quirky and more lyrical, I guess.

*Wimper*

I no longer have any of my Flash Girls music, and I loved it dearly. Did they re-release their first album or something?

You know, you should talk to a friend who has the first two CDs and might be convinced to burn replacement copies for you. Hrmmmmm. Who do you know like that, and how could they be convinced?

I dunno if you saw my comments below, but this Postmortem is actually by a slightly different group--Lorraine's new project, Lorraine a'Malena. No Emma, but this and Folk Underground have me pretty caught up with Ms Fabulous, which is great. ^_^

I hope the side-effects resolve themselves and your sleep gets better.

If you like, I can forward your question to my friend, Howard - who also uses one of those machines.

That version of "As Cool As I Am" is from an EP from, whoa, back in 1997, that I picked up at the Dar concert I saw lo these many years ago. It's a short disc, but one of my favorites for the versions of everything:

Tracks: WDYHITS (radio edit), Are You Out There (live), Wilder Than Her (with Fred Eaglesmith-only recording), The Christians and the Pagans (live), As Cool As I Am (live), WDYHITS (album version)

The new "Postmortem" is from Lorraine a'Malena, Lorraine's new group. The CD's quite a lot of fun, a lot gothier and spookier than the Flash Girls ever were. Some crossover in terms of songs, as well as a few new ones by Neil and others (I bet you'd particularly like "Just Me and Eve")--nobody can ever have too many versions of "I'll Tell Me Ma." I haven't been listening to stuff with lyrics as much lately (distracts me from homework), so I'll bring it in sometime for you to give a listen to, if you like.

Oh! Then I have that Dar CD (I really love Wilder than Her)! And I'd love to hear Lorraine's CD.
(Oh again! I should get an address for the Emma who wants a copy of that mix CD. Is it Tombstone/Tucson Emma?)

Ah! There you go, then; it's just my favorite version of ACAIM, so yeah. And I was kinda thinking of sending Ms Emma (yes, that one) a copy of the mix, so dunno if I should give you the disc or you should give me the disc; I'll ping her for address, at any rate.

I don't use bipap or Cpap but I know a little about having a mouth that's dried out. :)

Swishing mouthwash before you sleep with a non-alcoholic sorbitol or xylitol base (like Lavoris' children's brand) really helps keep the mouth hydrated. Sugar-gree gum is also good (once it's all softened and chewed) biting it in two and tucking one piece on one side of your mouth and the other on the other side. Keeps the saliva flowing and works better than lozenges which can make your tissues raw, so long as the gum isn't cinnamon or a spicy flavour. Something neutral is best.

Good luck with the bipap!

I'd be a little worried about putting gum into my mouth just before going to sleep, but I may look into the mouthwash.

If you poke around cpap.com, they have a strap that purports to help you keep your mouth closed.

Yeah, they mentioned one of those at Stanford. I may well end up with one, if I can't train my body to sleep that way.

Maybe you don't like monsters so much...

Sorry, just making the lyric-recognition post.
