London's Burning
Apr. 5th, 2006 11:13 amSo, this from Reuters:In the Clash against Terrorists, be careful what you sing.
Particularly dangerous lyrics bolded.
London Calling: The Clash
London calling to the faraway towns
Now war is declared - and battle come down(1)
London calling to the underworld
Come out of the cupboard, you boys and girls
London calling, now don't look to us
Phoney Beatlemania has bitten the dust
London calling, see we ain't got no swing
'Cept for the reign of that truncheon thing(2)
CHORUS
The ice age is coming, the sun's zooming in
Meltdown expected(3), the wheat is growing thin
Engines stop running(4), but I have no fear
Cause London is burning and I live by the river
London calling to the imitation zone
Forget it, brother, you can go at it alone(5)
London calling to the zombies of death
Quit holding out - and draw another breath
London calling - and I don't wanna shout
But while we were talking I saw you nodding out
London calling, see we ain't got no high
Except for that one with the yellowy eyes(6)
CHORUS x2
Now get this
London calling, yes, I was there, too
An' you know what they said? Well, some of it was true!
London calling at the top of the dial
And after all this, won't you give me a smile?
London Calling
I never felt so much alike, like-a, like-a...
1. When war is declared, especially the War on Terror, no battle will come down. We will be greeted as liberators, with flowers and chocolates.
2. The peace officers of this country would never use unneccessary brutality while dealing with people whose opinions they disagree with.
3. So-called 'Global Warning' is obviously just so much left wing foofaraw created by leftist radicals who want to cripple our petroleum-based society.
4. The engines of capitalism and democracy will never stop running, despite the sabot flinging by the left.
5. Obvious mocking of the President's choice to forgo United Nations activity and instead act with a Coalition of the Willing.
6. Dick Cheney's eyes are not *that* yellow.
That is all. Move along. Nothing to see here. Shut up. Remain calm. Anyone interfering with the collection of urine samples Will. Be. Shot. The number one enemy of Progress is questions.

Lastly, I can still see why he would be concerned. I do think that he over reacted, as did the officials involved. A quick Google search could have alleviated their fears.

Date: 2006-04-06 12:45 am (UTC)Really? I mean, the footnotes I made were in jest. I'm not seeing where, as one of at least four songs played during a taxi ride especially, this would cause any reasonable person concern.
I suppose I should make sure to not buy an iPod--I'd share my Ministry with the taxi driver and the FBI would arrest me for dangerous and threatening musical tastes.

Date: 2006-04-06 12:52 am (UTC)I do not argee with the officials involved, nor do I agree with the taxi driver. Though I can understand why the taxi driver was afraid. Someone that lives in a small world, and doesn't stop and think about things like, "The dude is playing a song that talks about things that make my uncomfortable. I don't like it, but clearly if he were a terrorist, he'd tried to blend in as much as possible."
