So, in addition to the C/W mix disc, the rap mix disc, the two (possibly three, if the After Midnight soundtrack finds fertile mindground) RPG soundtracks, the double disc latin themed mix disc, the masturbation themed mix disc and the Shakespeare themed mix disc that I have in the works, today I started on the geeky-crush-on-Sarah-Vowell mix disc. Not a lot--four tracks so far.

Hard Times -- Boiled in Lead (the inspiration and core)
The Ghost of Stephen Foster -- Squirrel Nut Zippers
Abie Baby -- Hair OCR
James K. Polk -- They Might Be Giants

Any suggestions are welcome. (As they are, I suppose, for the other mix discs.)

EDIT: I'm putting together an mp3 disc of '80s music, inspired by Aelf's unfortunate lack of such, and am looking for a title. I was looking at plays on song titles like 'Love My Way' or 'World in My Eyes' because this will probably not end up being like the Time/Life Music of the '80s collection but more a view of the years through my own prism. Again, feel free to make suggestions.
Also? TMBG is excellent singing along very loudly in the car with music.

Actually, on that one I'm looking for a *title*. The reason it's going to be an mp3 disc is because I don't plan to do a lot of editing and leaving out. (:

I know, I was giving you song titles that might work as good mix titles, or might at least inspire something. :-)

And now I really love 'Stop Me...' as a potential title. When did Strangeways come out? '86?

I think I may have a geeky crush on Sarah Vowell as well, although I've only seen her being interviewed places and not read any of her books. Did you hear when she was on Conan and talking about when she's bored she likes to think about Snoop Dogg making out with Koffi Annan or something like that? It was some prominent African leader. Or how she likes to imagine tour guides at museums gradually turning into werewolves?

Two States - Pavement
Decatur, Or, Round Of Applause For Your Stepmother! - Sufjan Stevens (and probably a few more songs by him)
Car Radio - Spoon
MAYBE Nerd Alert! by The Aquabats
Oh! "An Assassin" by The Shins
and The Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players somehow have a very Sarah Vowell feel.
Maybe "I Don't Wanna Die" by The Unicorns
I will provide you with any and all of these songs upon request.

I do not believe I am familiar with any of these. But they sound intriguing.
And I can do nothing but recommend that you find Sarah Vowell books, perforce if must be at your local lending library. The more I read the more I adore her. (:
(And I'm not certain if I've ever seen Conan, aside from in the South Park movie.)

Do you want me to send you the songs?
If you're not familiar with the artists Pavement, Sufjan Stevens, The Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players, and The Unicorns, then I feel bad for you.

I would not at all be opposed to this plan. And you may begin to pity me--while I am familiar with the names Sufjan Stevens, the Shins, the Aquabats and Pavement, the others do not bring anything familiar to mind immediately.

Woohoo! I'm not sure which part inspired that, but I need to do it more often. (:

The part that mentions me, of course! o.O Or rather, my hope/expectation that I'll get one of these discs, because oooooh.

Oh yeah, you'll definitely be getting one. It may not be immediately (I may have to selectively go through the rest of my CDs and rip time-appropriate ones) but you're at the top of my list. (:
*hugs* Hope you're having a wonderful weekend, hon.

Woo, thank you! Immediate delivery is not at all expected (anti...pation), but this made me happy to see the morning after a quite awful night, with the Sharks loss, and the discovery of what I think is poison oak rash while I showered this morning. -_- And I get to go to the game tomorrow, so the weekend's looking up!
