So I logged into LJ at work, and there was this grey navbar across the top of the page. At first there was a link to 'remove this' but when I clicked on it all it seemed to do was remove the link.
I resented the navbar because it is new and I fear that which is new. However, there's at least one cool thing about it--I can now view 'friends' pages by filters. Right now all my filters are for posting purposes, but I suspect I'll build at least one for reading purposes. This is kind of cool.
EDIT: Oh yeah, the other cool thing is that there's a link right on my reading page to post an update, so I don't have to go through my profile. (Of course, I did anyway because I'm muscle trained that I have to click on Profile to post.)

I thought the NavBar had to be turned on, but maybe they made it a default.

I'm liking the NavBar for friends viewing purposes, and for letting me know whether or not I'm actually logged on and as what account, since I have more than one. :)

I'm pretty sure I didn't turn it on. But yeah, it does help with the stealth-log-you-out thing too, and I can see how it would be handy with multiple accounts.

I think they must have made it a default sometime this evening. I'd previously tried it and turned it off again.

Huh. I was able to remove it entirely. Weird.

Ummm. I'm not seeing that option at least.
I am amused that there's a link on my Friends page that goes to my Friends page. Just in case.

OK, go to the confidgure/remove section, then look down the page to the navigation strip display options bit. That's the part that matters.

I think I'm using a different style than you are. I don't see a configure/remove section--the closest I come is 'Your Settings' on the Profile page's sidebar.
Regardless, I'm not too worried. I like the navbar now.

For future or others' reference, the settings for it are at http://www.livejournal.com/manage/settings/ .

Another thing I like about it is that it makes it much more obvious if I'm logged in or not, which I mysteriously lose sometimes and then miss out on friends-locked posts for a few days.

Yeah, I noticed that eventually. (:
So far, getting along with the navbar.

I hate that nav bar. It does NOT match my layout. And I already have friends filters (linked on my sidebar).

If you don't already know how, one of my clever friends knows how to disable it. (:
