Okay, it's Friday, and I know you've all been waiting for it: It's the Ask Me A Question entry! That's right, any question. Ask away.

Also, Skinny Puppy is not good bedtime music.

Why did you steal my meme? ;)

No, that's not my question. My question is:

"What do you do with a drunken sailor, early in the morning?"

Thanks! Totally stole it from a friend, [livejournal.com profile] hardvice.

Trying to figure out now how to get the snakes off the plane. ;)

That is totally not a question!

I stole your meme because I was frustrated after failing to steal your heart.
And personally, I'd throw him into bed with the Captain's Daughter. Early in the morning.

If it's not good bedtime music, then why did you listen to it at bedtime? *g* :)

Because when I finished up all the 'getting ready for bed' stuff I was in the middle of previewing it for ripping and so I just let the album play through.
Weird dreams.

How would you choose a name for yourself in a foreign language which shares few (if any) roots with your native tongue?

If I had some sort of translating ability or tool, I'd probably try to choose something that I liked the meaning of. Otherwise I'd try to find something that I found aesthetically pleasing or, if there are literary or historical names that I like the associations of then I might choose one of those.

Where have I heard of Skinny Puppy before you?

Well, they were (are? They've broken up a couple of times and keep getting back together so I'm not positive on their current status) a seminal eighties Industrial/Alternative band, so I would say likely at the supermarket as muzak in the produce section or at the church social.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you make your ideal home?

Um. Wow.
Okay, the first problem is that it'd have to be near everyone I know, so it's already an imaginary place. It'd be a big house, with a good acreage (some fields, orchards, forest, and a creek perhaps) within spitting distance of the ocean. The place should be big enough to fit everyone who wants to stay there and still leave private room for them. It should not be in the city, but it should be within fifteen or thirty minutes of a well-planned metropolis with a well-planned public transit system and green space and museums and interesting architecture and historical points of interest. The government should be concerned with providing for those who cannot provide for themselves, and would never consider an incorporated commercial entity to be commensurate to a human life.
Um. There's probably more but it's late and I'm at work. (:

I think there's a neighborhood that is a 15 minute ferry ride from Auckland, New Zealand that meets your requirements.

Expensive houses, though.

But how would we get everyone to move to Auckland?

Um. Tell them it's a special 'Lord of the Rings' related somethingorother and then only buy them one-way tickets?

Yeah, it sounds like 'Soooooper Genius' is going to have to go on my business card. (:

Aukland, hmm, I don't know. Make it Christchurch and I'll drop everything and leave in the next ten minutes.

Is there that big a difference?

Aukland = north island
Christchurch = south island

Dad lived in Christchurch for about 18 months not long ago. Raved about the place almost daily.

Did he diss Auckland, or is it just an unknown quantity compared to ChristChurch?

No dissing, just had no opportunity to get there. Stayed on the South Island, mostly due to work and lack of vehicle.

So you're still maybe convinceable, it'd just be more work to get you keen on the north island. (:

Anywhere in New Zealand is fine with me.

It's less than a day's drive to nearly anywhere on South Island.

I still am! The general response has been underwhelming, so I'm hoping that when I make the re-announcement at two weeks there's more interest.

Do you know when? I'm likely to need more than 2 weeks notice...

I've requested vacation days for the weekend of the 20th. I'll probably be up there Friday or Saturday and try to fly out on Monday to be in Portland that evening.

Oh er... did you want to actually try to set some plans? I don't know what your plans are, but Sunday is easy for me.

Date: 2006-07-23 09:07 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cyranocyrano.livejournal.com
At some point, setting plans would be good--especially for you, since it's much more of a hassle for you than anybody else in the area because you're way out in Olympia. Sunday is best for you?

Date: 2006-07-23 09:18 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] wilson-lizard.livejournal.com
It would be easiest, but I could probably work out another day if Sunday doesn't work for you.

Are you still @nog.net?
