cyrano: (whatever)

I was composing a post about a year after Katrina, with hyperlinks and updates on Mayor 'Chocolate' Nagin's plans for the city and the federal government's involvement in rebuilding the city.
But you know what? Dandelion Break. It's going to be a tragedy, and I may cry, and the rich will get richer and the poor will be relocated, and Corporation Vincit Omnia. But me caring obviously doesn't seem to make that much of a difference because it happens anyway.
If you still care, ACORN is trying to help people adopt homes, and volunteers are still working to rebuild. Admittedly, now that Camp Algiers is closed due to lack of funds, it's a lot more expensive to volunteer.

Welcome to the sidelines bro! Come, pull up a chair and a drink and watch the world go by. It can be hysterically funny and horribly tragic, sometimes at the same time.

But don't you ever stop putting joy into the lives of those you know. (For then I will not like you any more.) As for the rest: Enjoy the show.

I read an article today about how, a year later, the marshes are sterile and may be permanently destroyed across eight gulf states, which will make hurricane damage even more severe in the future, and cripple local ecosystems and send local economies even further into the dust.
And I just nodded my head and turned the page.

Yeah, it goes like that. But as I worked on patio in the afternoon glow, I was listening to All Things Considered. They ran stories about volunteer charities who are rebuilding houses in MS and LA. These groups are planning to stay for years.

Everything in balance.
