cyrano: (Man in Glasses)

New glasses ordered. I did not, in fact, have to fight tooth and nail for glass lenses, but I did pay through the nose. I didn't realize how much extra they'd be until I was getting rung up (which was at least partially my fault for not asking) and it's probably more than I would have *liked* to but not more than I can take. I got the cool magnetic sunglass attachment thingies, and the shape is a fair approximation of the lenses I currently have. The exam indicates that my eyesight has improved over the past six years, so take *that*, 'getting older', you big doodyhead.
Ten working days from now, they say I should have them in hand.

P'raps I missed it in an earlier post, but why on Earth do you prefer glass lenses?

Mostly because they don't scratch as easily as plastic. And if they hang out with me, they're likely to get into situations conducive to scratching.

Me, too, but I spring for the scratch-resistant plastic. Glass is heavy enough to give me a headache.

Mostly people tell me that glass is dangerous, but I do hear that glass is heavy also. I'll probably eventually opt for plastic lenses and then say 'Oh my god, why didn't I do this sooner?' but with nothing to compare it to I don't notice the weight. (:

I laugh in the face of danger! But I cower in the face of constant headaches. ;)

If your vision is improving, your lenses probably aren't as heavy as mine were. I'm blind as a bat with ever-worsening vision, and I had the classic Coke-bottle lenses before I finally discovered the wonders of space-age polymers.

Oh yeah, I'm lucky that way. If my glasses weren't adorable wee tiny lenses, then I would have said 'screw scratches' long ago and leapt headfirst into the coal car of the plastic lens train.

Did they fix up the old ones? they probably would be glad to fix them...

They offered, until I showed them that the metal on the nosepiece had corroded from age and only about half of it was still left. And I just tighten the screw on the hinge every day or two and (so long as I remember to do so) that part's fine.
