New law in Iraq provides for the arrest and jailing of journalists who print stories which insult or ridicules the government or its officials. Some of the laws are apparently 'resurrected verbatim from Sadam Hussein's penal code'.

And when combined with our own rape, torture and the ongoing slaughter of civilians I find my inner Frenchman forced to ask, "So why did we invade Iraq again?" The sad thing is that even the more "outrageous" (or is that "shrill"?) theories that were being yelled out at peace marches before the invasion are starting to sound a helluva lot less evil and just plain stupid than what we've ended up with.

My strong suspicion is that eventually the administration will claim that, all along, our motivation for invading Iraq was to liberate the opressed people of Free Kurdistan.
