Feeling just generally not well, but probably better than yesterday.
Lots of friends over, and it never felt so crowded that I needed to flee the house. Miss Friday came over and we talked and sat and hugged and I cut her a couple of mix discs (playlists to follow). My lovely housemate picked up the mashed potato ball for me where I'd dropped it, and our entire sixteen-member potluck went more or less hitchless. The food was lovely and I had way too much which probably contributes to how I feel.
Harry Potter was yesterday, and it was very pretty to look at. I was amused by the other-movie references (Return of the Jedi, The Birds, and I don't know if Harry slept in the ashes like a forlorn Cinderella in the book or not...) Stuff was trimmed from the book, which meant that there was less of the cartoony kitten-eating bad guy aren't Muggles stupid stuff that annoyed me so much from the book, so that was good too. Some nice casting.
(Later added entry: One of my first thoughts on the movie was 'My God, that kid looks like Ray!' I wonder if he's glad that only a couple of people near him now remember him from that far back, as he is far cuter now.)
And I loved the preview for Monsters Inc (the charades one, to avoid spoilers), and the Episode Two trailer actually granted me with a mild interest in seeing the movie, although I still think Attack of the Clones is a goofy name, and I laughed out loud at "Annie" riding his 750cc HoverHarley across the Tattooine desert like a space-opera Marlon Brando looking for the rest of the Wild Ones.

Scanning my friends lists, I think I'm at about break-even for the pro and counter Snapes factions. Me, I liked his old-fashioned kind of villainty in the books. (Have a kitten! Pass the mustard!) A grey side of the Force kind of person probably wouldn't have been as effective a misdirection from the truly evil Quirrel. And, uhm, just call me childish =)

Oh wow.

How could I forget to mention Alan Rickman? *Methos the Watcher-style swoon*
Yeah, they really pruned his part for the movie, which I will likely never forgive Columbus for, but the kitten eating referred to Harry's evil uncle and aunt.

A) The Quidditch Match, which I'd heard described as the moral equivalent of the Pod Race. It may have gone on a bit long, but I enjoyed it. Felt very much like schoolboys playing rugby.
B) The houses. Gryffindor is obviously 'the House where Young Heroes go'. Slytherin is obviously 'the House where Young Bad Guys go'. HufflePuff seems to be 'the House where we stick everybody else'. Ravenclaw is, from what I've heard of later books, 'the House where all the Susans get put'. Do these last two houses ever get to develop any kind of character of their own?

Oh yeah

And the end rankled about as much as it did in the book.
I have issues with incompetent authority figures who, at the last moment, waggle their eyebrows and say 'Hurm. These rules I've made don't do what I want them to at all. I shall have to discard them momentarily so I can get the results I wanted.' Kind of like my problem with some of Xianity's versions of JHVH.
