So. Who do we know that deals with real estate? I want to know what they think about a lad like me getting certified at Foothill and diving into the market and all that. So I'm all bursting with questions and whatnot.
Hurrah for more questions and a continuing uncertain future!

I don't have any sage advice, but I will at least mention that real estate agents spend a LOT of time driving around, much of that with other people in the car. I seem to remember you don't much enjoy driving... :-)

Real estate agents are also on call all the time and schmooze with a lot of random strangers every day, neither of which seem especially suited to your personality.

My mother was a real estate agent. It was pretty horrible. You have to deal with a lot of people who are in an extremely stressful situation due to the large amount of money changing hands. People fight amongst themselves and with the other parties (buyer/seller and their agent(s)). Lots of arguments. Lots of hate and discontent. Lots of anxiety.

This was pretty much my experience in buying a home. While I was nice to my agent, he was constantly on the phone with this couple that had made an offer on a house. They called him every 30 minutes and argued about everything, including whether the previous owner would leave the drapes on the windows.

Aren't you afraid that, if you become a realtor, Annette Bening will play you in the story of your life? That would utterly paralyze me.

See if you can get in touch with Bill (either through [livejournal.com profile] mister_sunshine or Bruce, his old roommates), since I think he took the real estate path a couple of years back, and probably has a lot of advice. I'm just not sure where he is right now, sorry!

I believe I've received email from Bill recently (well, last 6 mo maybe). I didn't talk to him about his new gig at all, but if either of you want his new contact info I'll try to hook you up.

Saw your comment on the LJ_news and said to myself "right now, a few bucks isn't a big deal for me." Some day you'll find yourself in a similar situation. (:
