Having finished the second Nicola Griffith book, I can only say I wish that the two had been billed as linked. At the end of the first book, I was supremely dissatisfied and didn't care for the protagonist. By the time I'd finished "Stay", however, I was much happier with the author and her character. "Blue Place" very much ends in the middle of the character arc, which is probably most of what I found dissatisfying about it. I'm glad I had read her work before and on that strength continued to read "Stay".

Having listened to Spamalot, I must say that I am disappointed. The only track I really enjoyed was "The Song That Goes Like This" which in fact made me laugh out loud. The rest of it, though, was not interesting to me. Which makes me sad, because so many of my friends seem to be terribly pleased by it.
It does reinforce my desire to not listen to "Wicked" until I've seen a performance, though.

I found Blue Place sufficiently upsetting that I did not read Stay. (Upsetting was not the only thing I found it, it was very good in many ways.) Is Stay happier?

Stay is the second half of the character arc. It's about discovery, redemption and transformation. In fact, the three sections of the book are named (if I recall correctly) larva, pupa and chrysalis. It is, I think, less disturbing and more happy. It is still violent.
