Why did Firefly get canceled and yet Survivor keeps coming back over and over?

Oh yeah, and also, Firefly was signed to Fox by an executive who got fired within months of bringing it onboard and the new crew didn't want it around because it had his taint all over it.

Because Survivor makes bajillions of dollars and, aside from the exotic locales, really costs very little to make. Whereas Firefly made a respectable amount of money and cost more than a little.
