You know what kicks my ass about Heroes?
Aside from the writing, the characters, the killer plot twists, the geeky genre references, the actors and the general hottness of Suresh?
The constant implication that the writers know exactly what story they're telling and where it's going, and that I usually can't guess where that is.

They did the Dark Alternate Universe thing! And just like in the comics, everybody in the DAU is *fuckin' cool*. DAU Peter? Totally cool. Bitchen scar, Peter. WTF happened to Jessica? DAU President? Damned cool. Very efficient. And totally not who I expected. DAU Hiro? Swoony good. Especially that 'last page'.

And why the hell didn't Mohinder and Peter take Sylar out when they had him helpless? That's a *horror movie* trope, not a comic trope!

Has anybody heard if the 'three episodes left' is for real? Are they planning on finishing the story this season even if the show is wildly popular and sells lots of adtime?

They may finish this story arc, but that doesn't mean the series will be finished for good. And I like that they went in with a solid plan and a tightly plotted story. One of the main problems other genre (and genre-esque) shows have had is the fact the creators never seem to have a destination in mind.

Now, X-Files milked that for 9 seasons, but if you sit down and watch the whole series and try to put all the information together into a coherent storyline, well, it doesn't work. There's no consistency at all and it makes absolutely no sense. LOST is even worse. They actually seemed to have a solid world and a direction in the first season, but subsequent seasons have shown this isn't the case ... and they've lost viewers (like, say, me) because of it.

HEROES has consistency and continuity. It feels like we're watching a mini-series based on a book, and that it has a clearly defined beginning, middle, and end. I really like that about it. This doesn't mean that it will not come back next season, mind you, but if it doesn't ... you know, I won't be all that upset. I'd rather they understand that they can't sustain the universe and end it than have them drag it out until it collapses into insensibility like LOST.

Exactly. I was so thrilled when they explained why you 'Save the cheerleader, save the world'. With Lost, it feels like they are getting their shit together, but that season and a half was really disappointing. Veronica Mars turned out much the same--the first season was amazing and now I really wish they'd cut it off then, because the occasional glimmers of beauty afterward weren't enough to save it from being tarnished.

Yeah, I hadn't heard one way or the other and was curious if anybody else had.

I have some theories as to where the exploding man plot will go and also some general ideas of how they can keep Syler even if they kill him. But we shall see.

Heroes is a delight.

There is going to be a second season. "Next season, instead of one epic yarn stretched across an entire year, there are likely to be two tighter sagas, or "volumes" in the Heroes parlance."

If you're not afraid of massive spoilers, check out http://www.spoilerfix.com/heroes.php. It's got lots of neat stuff to say about next season, which is going to have a large focus on the genetic ties and backgrounds of the current Heroes, and bring in family members that we may or may not have known about to flesh out those ideas.

....... *whine*
Okay, I want to know, but I think I want to find out on the show. mrf. I'm glad to hear you're feeling enthusiastic about it, because I have been burned too often by shows with an amazing first year that should have just closed shop at that point.

Well, I can't say much about how well they're going to do it, but it does sound like they're going to solve at least one of this season's issues (having all the players in one playground made some of the pacing seem "off"). And I'm a sucker for back story... my favorite of the Vampire Chronicles was Queen of the Damned, purely because it had Anne Rice's version of the origin of vampires in it. So the plan for next season sounds pretty cool to me.
