Today was the trip to ChinaTown. I walked about 2349832749326 blocks, all of it on a sixty percent grade. Felt really dim for not bringing a book or an mp3 player for the BART trip there, or a camera for pictures of what I had found. And I found nothing I was looking for. Well, sort of. I found the cane, but it was $80. Mom, it's going to have to wait a paycheck or two. I found the Tony Jaa movie (Thom Yum Goong) but it had no English subtitling. I did not find a copy of Guitar Wolf, but that's a Japanese movie. I found (among other gorgeous things) the cheong sam. But it was twice as expensive as I was willing to pay especially when I didn't know if it would fit or not.

However. I had a steamed pork bun, in memoriam. I had a delightful phone call. I found a $5 copy of Twin Dragons and a $10 copy of Dragon Inn. And it was cool and foggy and a lovely day in the city. And I saw lots of cool stuff. And then I went to Motley Politico's impromptu social, where I discovered his new room, and his new cat, and he showed me this music video. By the time it was half way over, I was saying "I must make a game based on this video. It will not be a world that holds up well to extrapolation or being logicked about, but it must be done. And here's what I've got so far.

Cydonia
Colonists on a new terraformed world—terraforming has just finished, and they’re getting the planetwide power source ready to go live. When they do, there is a reaction with the planet’s magnetic field and it burns out everything in orbit and establishes a field that prevents landing or re-establishing contact with the colonists. This field also awakens the hibernating fairies. Still have to work the kung fu in, but that gives us wonky tek levels and hoarding the relics of the advanced society plus lack of contact with the mother world. I figure the game takes place about fifty or sixty years down the line, when people have dim, mostly second hand memories of The Time That Was, and that's when the fairies start showing up. The Knights of Cydonia are probably whoever has managed to hoard the hitek equipment stuff. I'm not sure how much power they actually have, but they're feared or revered as like unto gods.

:-D That video is *gold*, man.
Very inspiring here too *LOL* Makes me want to work on my story with Beau the Cowboy. (No, really, anthropomorphic cow. In a post-apocalyptic western society where this is normal.)

Aw hell. That's probably one of the reasons I was having such awful luck finding it--because I had the wrong damned *name*.
