Not to name any names, but some of the kitchen-packing folks I worked with yesterday have dirty dirty minds.

I have three different kinds of crushes on the three MythBusters interns. But in today's episode, Kari is in pigtails and two-tone shoes.

I've been nursing comments about the latest Who Wants to Be a Superhero.

Wow. This episode's fifteen minute eSurance commercial was really painful. I mean, the other product placement stuff (The billboard on the roof, the gigantic SUVs, etc) make me wince, but... just beyond the pale.
And in the preview for the next episode, as soon as Stan whined about this being the first time he'd ever heard a superhero scream, my first thought was "Dude. Banshee? I also understand that Black Canary has some sort of scream power but I may be misremembering. I'm not a DC comics guy.
Also, Basura may be cute, but Aja out of costume is total arty geek hotness.
I don't know whether Stan's just reading a script, or if his moral judgement really is as spontaneously malleable as it seems. Either way, the boy bugs me more the longer I watch.
But I'm still watching.

There was something else I was going to say here, but I can't remember what.
I'd love to go to that gaming con, but I don't think I can justify the expense for just two games.

EDIT: So on Mythbusters they just were at the Steinhart Aquarium in San Francisco. I've never heard of this place, and am now very curious.

Especially literate spam last week--one day, the subject lines included quotes from Shakespeare, Austen and Wodehouse.

The Steinhart Aquarium is part of the California Academy of Sciences on 5th & Howard-ish. It's no Monterey Bay Aquarium, but it's neat. Admission is free on the first Weds of every month.

Also, it's been there *forever*.

I'm jealous! How come you get all the interesting spam and all I get is "Claim your 1OO.OO Apple coupon" stuff?

Admittedly, part of it is probably because I'm getting about a thousand of them a day so I'm bound to get a little more variety.

Really? I got the impression from the website that until recently it was housed in Golden Gate Park and they planned to move back next year.

Plus they have an 'open late on Thursday' gig once a month too, it looks like.

Oh ah!
And yeah, my friends always made me go to Monterey if I wanted to see fish.

...or Pike Street Market.

The aquarium is, at it's current location, just the right size for a lunchtime ramble, if you're lucky enough to work nearby.

I adore going when I can - fishies and science museums in general just make me happy.

Yay! Someone else watching Superhero!

I was sad to see Basura go, but I think ignoring the woman with the lost child thing was too much of a blow against her. Of course, I was happy to see Mr. Mitzvah go, but then found I missed his constant self-absorbed "I must get laid!" banter this week.

I predict Defuser will go this week unless he has a major turn around. He just doesn't strike me as the type who is open to changing, though.

Um, can you tell I've been dying to talk to someone about this show???

Hey I'm not the one who put that particular spin on the "Official Long Things Box"...

Hee!
Yeah, it seems very likely that Basura didn't watch last season, in which we learned the true nature of missions. However, I'm suspicious that the editing plays a bigger part in who goes home than the actual behavior of the participants.
Honestly? I totally feel for the Defuser. He's used to working in an environment where things are organized and things get done. And then he gets put in an environment where you're supposed to be functioning as a team, and everybody just sort of wanders around wondering what to do. (: When you walk into a crime scene and your team mate immediately starts tidying up the evidence, I can see that being a little maddening.
The previous episode, where Mitzvah and Limelight both went home? Pretty much jackpot for me.

*I* certainly didn't say anything. I was, as I recall, forbidden from saying anything. (:

*laughs* Yes, I agree, last ep was good for getting rid of The Annoyers, but I can't deny that I find most of those left rather bland. I dunno about your take on The Defuser, though. I mean he's so judgmental and negative, and those things don't translate to hero, I think. He wants to tell everyone what to do, how to improve themselves, and yet I don't see him taking Stan's advice to heart.

I just read though that they are likely never interacting with Stan, actually. Instead they likely have a PA reading Stan's lines to them and his segments are filmed later. I could tell those segments weren't actually showing up on those screens, of course, but I figured that was just because images of TVs don't film well. It makes me feel even worse for the contestants.

Can't wait for Thursday!

Oh, and as for the scream comment? I'm 100% certain that Limelight screeched all through the first mission this season, so I do not know what Stan is smoking (but he must be smoking it through his ears).

I'm fairly certain "some" in that sentence actually translates to "all." ;)

I'm not denying that he's got issues, nor even that he is likely to be the next one to be thrown off the roof. I'm just saying that I can see where he's coming from.
If Hyperstrike were less sidekicky, I'd be rooting for him. But generally, compared to last season, there just isn't a lot of character to the characters.
And am I mistaken, or did the comic book covers from last season actually vaguely resemble the contestants? This year, not so much.

Argh, see, I haven't seen last season yet. iTunes has them for $10, but I can't justify that expense. It's released on DVD, but Netflix doesn't have them yet....

I like Hyper-Strike, but I feel like he needs to be spurred on a bit. I think he's capable of a lot, but he hasn't had that "defining moment" yet.

I'm impressed with Parthenon, but feel like sometimes the producers must be asking him to "gay it up" a bit, and it feels like he's acting, not like that's part of his normal persona.

I will admit that Whip-Snap has gotten lucky not to be on the red block, but I love her.

And Hygena... well, I think she's gotta step it up too, but she's so sweet, how can you not like her?

I wish we could see more of them interacting with their normal everyday crap like we do on most reality shows. I'd love to see squabbles over toothpaste in the sink and whatnot.

I'll see if we still have last season floating around the house somewhere.
And yeah, I'm seeing a lot of 'side kick' action this season. Which may be enough--adequate and not drawing the attention of the All-Seeing Eye.
I was really pleased that, generally speaking, Parthenon didn't seem to be aiming for the "I'm GAY! And I'm a SUPERHERO!" angle. So when he does Get Fabulous, it does sometimes feel forced. I think Whip-Snap has coasted on her "I have a very sad backstory" cred, but I don't think that's going to last.
I'm not especially familiar with the "Stuff them in a house" reality show format, but I can understand why they'd focus on the missions to perpetuate the four-color theme. In this issue! Hygena complains about coasters! "Use them!"

Mister Mitzvah--an afternote.
I think this idea had potential. While dangerously close to caricature, I like the idea of putting Tzedakah into superhero format.
I just think that Ian wasn't really prepared for this--it was more work than he wanted to give, and it pushed his comfort zone too far.

I guess to me it's character-revealing to see what happens in the house. On ANTM they show that interaction but the judges don't seem to be aware of what's happening in the house, which makes sense to me. I'd like to see a similar format, but I suspect they are trying not to show these people as "regular people" much at all.

Overall, the show feels short, mostly I think because they recap each time they come back from commercial, which feels needless and wasteful. I want MORE! :)

I think it was interesting to see this middle-aged guy who had no clue who he really was because he'd had his whole life handed to him on a platter have to struggle to find himself... as he was dressed as a superhero. I mean, that's compelling. And yet? Total putz.

It's also only.. what, six or eight episodes? So it's also short that way.

6, if season 1 is any indicator. :(

Oh well, at least Avatar starts up again soon.
