cyrano: (haha)

Actually, I don't. I want Michelle Rodriguez. She plays a psychopathic special forces hottie named Rain Ocampo in the new Resident Evil film. I was kind of half hoping it would suck so my review could consist of a single sentence: This movie is now useless--Discard?(y/n)
However, RE breaks the 'movies about video games suck' rule, being better than Mario Brothers. It also breaks the 'prequels are lame and sad' rule that Phantom Menace so valiantly fought to preserve. Very tense. Creepy. Lots of cool character stuff--they're not interchangable monster bait. Plus fan service with cameos by stuff from the games, specific examples include 'that god damn train' and the monster butler.
And there were no awful cattle gates or horrid lines or any of the other things I've come to associate with opening night. There was only one phone call during the film, and the audience generally avoided my wrath.
Thank you for taking me, Princess!

Hooray for snarky brunette girls named Rain who kick ass! Also hooray for Resident Evil which I saw last night which ruled even though I haven't played the game

Yeah, one of the things I really like about RE is that the people behind it are fascinated with the story they're telling, and care a lot about it.
One of the things that pisses me off (only shows up in the video games) is the arbitrary puzzle solutions. "What do you mean I need the Diamond Key to open this door? You said I was an expert lockpicker. Plus I have a god damn shot gun and could just blow through that crappy door if I so felt the need. Bastards." (Also reserved for a special circle of hell: cut scenes where a crucial NPC is dying and you can do nothing to save them despite having, in your inventory, about 4352565653656 healing draughts.)
