So today was not the best day. Stayed busy at work, things were going by pretty quickly. This is a good thing. Around four, I was in the middle of a rental and realized I couldn't make the words on the paper focus. I smoothly and professionally passed the rental on to Karsten (Or, as known by his Rapper Name, Special K) and went back to put the rental in a garment bag and say 'what the hell?'
Within half an hour, my vision was clouded--everything was covered with a milky gauze. This was when I got completely terrified. It didn't get any worse, at least. Just about the time I got that familiar stabbing pain behind my right eye, my vision started to clear. I was still full of adrenaline and more or less a basket case, but at least I could say 'this is why it happened, and it's only temporary'.
I've never had a migraine do that to me before, but I've heard people describe it as a symptom. By the time I got home from work, I only had the usual symptoms to deal with--dizziness, asymetrical head pain and nausea. I managed to get dinner cooked before Ellie showed up, though. And it was good not to be in the house alone, and I was considerably less freaked out. Thanks, nice Ellie!

Scary!

I'm glad it's just temporary, though I hope it's not recurring. That'd be even worse if you were driving.

I knew a guy in High School (Dan Ryker - class of 91, you might have known him) who, in his senior year, went blind from some strange disease or something. In the course of about 6 months, he went from perfectly normal, not even glasses, to being legally blind. Ever since then, I've always vaguely worried about it. It's really hard to be a computer programmer if you can't read the screen.

On the other hand, robotic vision for humans is really taking off, and I'm sure lots of kinds of blindness will be solved in our lifetimes. I met someone that used to be deaf and had the gadget that hooks directly into your brain, and he could clearly hear perfectly fine. He still had a trace of the deaf accent, but noticably less than most deaf people. He said at first, all he heard was static, as his brain learned how to process the signals, and it's impossible to predict still who it will work for and how quickly, but it works! Okay, this has nothing to do with you, I just think it's amazingly cool that this isn't science fiction, but something being done to real people today.

Now that we've created a device that takes external input and creates output in the form the brain can recieve, how long before I get wireless internet in my skull?

Hmm, if only I had 20 Million dollars, to found my new company. Cranial Networks, streaming chatrooms and porn, directly to your nervous system!
