At the Movies with a Canid

Lucky Number Slevin
Enjoyable, but not as clever as it thought it was. Honestly, even *I* could see the 'big reveal' coming, although a couple of the minor details were a surprise. Bruce Willis played Bruce Willis with a style that you see in most other Bruce Willis films. Lucy Liu was good, and Josh Hartnett (or whoever it was) as our favorite unreliable narrator was charming and smart assed. Good to watch, no need to own. Three wags on this one, but no need to own.
Mean Girls
For those of you who found Heathers to be too dark and mean spirited, this film gives it a happier ending. Tina Fey read a book about how girls are awful to one another and wanted to say 'this is what it's like and it really doesn't have to be that way'. Which means that she went out of her way to make sure her characters were actual human beings instead of two-dimensional caricatures. You will be surprised to hear that I enjoyed the art freak characters, including one named Janis Ian (which made me laugh). I own it, but I don't know if I'll feel the need to watch it again. Three wags here too.
The Golden Compass
This was a lot of fun. And I was actually occasionally surprised by it. The main character was engaging and interesting. The storyline... may have been a bit too young for me, a bit too 'We are the Good Guys and We do Good Things, You are the Bad Guys and You do Bad Things'. This is the element that just about put me off Harry Potter in book one, but at the end of Golden Compass all the heroes were just as noble and full of freedom of thought and all the villains were just as evil and full of dominate and crush the spirit. But still, there were steampunky airships. And I even gave 'A View to a Kill' a positive rating for airships. So, despite misgivings, I say four wags on this film, although I don't think I'll need to own it.

Spiderwick Chronicles: This trailer made me more interested than before. Plus? Girl with a sword. Bonus points there.
Prince Caspian: Pretty much the same as my reaction to the first Narnia movie. Enh. Good luck with the new cash making franchise and stuff, but I'm thinking DVD rental maybe.
InkHeart: I have never heard of this project before. I am intrigued. Plus? Brendan Fraser.
There were probably others. Also? We got to see the new National Guard commercial by Three Doors Down. (Military history folks--did the National Guard really invade France at Normandy? I thought it was the US Army.) We also wandered the cinema and admired posters with upcoming attractions.
